Tracing a controls fault at the boiler's wiring terminals
When a boiler won't respond to its controls, the answer is often in the wiring between the thermostat, zone valves and boiler. That means checking each connection methodically rather than replacing parts on a guess.
Seized fan replaced on an older boiler
The fan on this older boiler had seized. A replacement part was still available, so the boiler was back up and running. I've advised the customer to plan ahead for a modern condensing boiler, which will be more efficient and easier to keep going.
Worn flue gasket found on a routine service
Caught on an annual service: the flue manifold gasket was in poor condition and letting condensate leak inside the boiler. Left alone, it would have eaten through the casing.
Unvented cylinder maintenance in a tight loft space
Not every cylinder sits in a roomy airing cupboard. Routine maintenance on an unvented hot water cylinder, squeezed in under the eaves.
